We are often asked for “clean poly-bags” and have to make the determination of what is meant by “clean poly-bags.” While the degree of cleanliness can get very detailed, we break it down into controlling for contamination that can be seen and contamination that cannot be seen.
If controlling for contamination that cannot be seen is desired, a clean-room certified bag is likely needed. ASTM standards force certain cleanliness benchmarks for manufacturers. Certified clean-room manufacturing pushes the bag price higher and requires a high minimum volume when compared to the alternative. ClearView Packaging does not make clean-room certified bags.
If controlling for visible contamination is desired without the need for certification, an industrial clean bag can be a packaging solution. ClearView Packaging does make industrially clean poly-bags. To control for visible contamination, the following is used:
- raw material is completely wrapped in transit
- clean rollers and machine prior to run
- raw material covered until machined
- clean operating procedures utilized including wearing gloves
- bags packaged in double poly lined cases
- quality control sheets double the number of checks. Each bag checked is kept and numbered corresponding to the case number in the field.
The methodology above has historically proven to produce bags 99% free of visible contamination. Industrial clean poly-bags can be had at a low minimum. The price is generally at a premium as compared to regular poly-bags.
